The Spores - Excellent eccentricity
Here we are again. Luuk und Lex at a Spores show. On a rainy Friday night we travelled half the country to check out this eccentric band in a bar called 'Plein 79'.
With a small turnout in this small 'venue' a nice position in front of the stage to feel the ridiculous bass tones and listen to some new songs, that have gotten a lot more electronics. With more electro and dance-beats in the mix, The Spores have just gotten weirder. And that's a good thing if you have a weakness for weird music like us.
The cool thing about a bar-show is the fact that it's all way more relaxed. The entry fee is forgettable (4 euros), the audience is mellow and there are tables to lean to and put your beer on whilst rolling a Van Nelle cigarette. If life was based on bar shows, my heart palpitations would be near to zero. A fine experience.
In a short but very loud and very intense showcase, the threesome accompanied by a new (and good) drummer kicked ass. With the laidback atmosphere it was kind of like going to the movies. Loads of shit happening in front of your eyes and inside your brain whilst you chill out and go for the ride. The new material is simply overwhelming (soundscapes, bad ass riffs with crazy effects) and complimented the older (more pop-rock orientated) stuff excellently. It makes me want to check out the new album. Which reminds me, Luuk you promised to lend it to me!
So how many times do you want us to repeat ourselves? If you're into eccentric music that is experimental and if you can appreciate charming live additions like onstage puppetry and cheerful Christmas lights you have to check out The Spores. Loads of chances to see them around Europe! Great fun with great and bizarre music.
